Once you have decided to seek Career Counseling, Dr. Sain does an initial 1 ½ to 2 hour intake meeting. During this time, she will listen to you to determine how to define the problem. Together, you and she then develop a plan for how to proceed.
If testing is appropriate, you will take one or more instruments related to career decision-making, either at the end of the initial session or at a second session. Testing materials are an extra charge. Usually, Dr. Sain offers the Strong Interest Inventory and/or the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). She is certified to administer and interpret both.
A minimum of one hourly session is devoted to test interpretation, though more than one hour may be needed should multiple tests be administered.
Dr. Sain suggests that you plan on a minimum of four sessions spread out over a three-month period. In-between sessions you will be carrying out "real world" assignments. At the end of the four sessions, you will discuss the necessity of any additional sessions. Some clients come back every 6 months or so for a follow-up to stay on track and to confront new issues that arise. You pay only for each session you have; no up front fees are collected. However, payment is expected at the time of the meeting by cash or check.
